Pinjarra Hills Research Facility

Bringing biological and industrial thinking together to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

Who we are

Real world facilities for co-located, multi-disciplinary biological and industrial research. Novel and modifiable research infrastructure, field locations and equipment are available for research, industry and higher degree research (HDR) projects.

Who we help

Researchers

Cross-disciplinary collaborations in animal science, engineering, biotechnology and sustainable landscapes happen at Pinjarra Hills. Researchers from UQ and other universities and industry partners work together at both proof-of-concept and near-to-commercialisation scales to achieve public good outcomes.

Industry

Research directions can be designed and driven by industry collaborating with research interests including those from sectors such as agriculture, biotechnology, sustainability, construction, mining and animal health on a pathway to commercialisation.

The Pinjarra Hills advantage

We offer managed and expanding research facilities, where scientific collaborations occur in a peri-urban, sub-tropical landscape. We are located only 20 minutes from Australia's third largest capital city – Brisbane. The Pinjarra Hills team ensures infrastructure is relevant to rapidly changing research needs, while providing management oversight so that individual research activity can see success in an estate which has been part of UQ for over 100 years.

What we offer

Specialised networks

Active facilitation of existing and new research networks and relationships, and opportunities for industry to collaborate with researchers to ground truth ideas for practical applications in complex sub-tropical landscapes.

Tailored research

Existing infrastructure can be modified to suit new research applications, including solar energy capabilities, central weather station with data sharing and digital technologies, field trials for microalgae based biomanufacture and smart farm attributes for animal husbandry and behaviour.

Research exchanges

Industry and research workshop exchanges in a beautiful South East Queensland rural setting can be negotiated, while industry retreats can be custom-designed.

Livestock health solutions

Animal research including reproductive health and disease management, vaccine development and behavioural and welfare studies located where grazing management for research mirrors that of commercial livestock operations. Novel nanobody investigations are expanding.
