Data Science
Who we are
We're a team of professional data scientists covering the entire research lifecycle, from initial data collection and advanced analytics to model development and deployment. We bring expertise in experimental design, statistics, bioinformatics, data management, data governance and applied AI.
The Data Science advantage
The Data Science Collaborative Research Platform (CRP) provides essential expertise in bioinformatics, statistics, biometry and applied AI, enabling Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students and researchers to harness the full potential of their data.
Multidisciplinary experience
Our team brings together a wealth of experience across complementary domains and various levels of seniority, ensuring that expertise is effectively applied to each project.
Flexibility
Our critical mass of skilled professionals is well-placed to tackle a variety of work as needed. Whether forming virtual teams or embedding within researchers' labs, we adapt to the requirements of each project.
Collaboration
We work closely with researchers to provide tailored support, ensuring that their needs are met efficiently and effectively.
Who we help
We support the entire research lifecycle, from initial data collection and management to advanced analysis and visualisation.
UQ researchers and HDRs
Our goal is to support research across all domains at UQ. Our team has expertise in life sciences, health, agriculture and ecology, and we are actively developing our capabilities in humanities and social sciences.
Government and industry
Our team's expertise is accessible on a consulting basis to enable research and innovation in start-ups, not-for-profit, industry and government departments.
What we offer
Services include access to subject matter experts for on-demand support or embedded personnel, collaboration on grant applications, upskilling HDRs and early career researchers (ECRs) through training workshops and co-supervision, and ensuring researchers can work effectively with sensitive data.
Data science support
From participating in research teams on a cost-recovery basis, to offering free consultations for research projects, publications and upcoming grant applications, we will find the best way to support research at UQ through our expertise in data science.
Training workshops
Free training workshops to get you started with biostatistics, bioinformatics and working with sensitive data.
Sensitive data guidance
UQ Trusted Research Environment (TRE) enables researchers to work with and share sensitive data while ensuring data sovereignty, security and privacy. We offer guidance on data access applications, data management and data governance for sensitive data.
